Now that phase II is done and we have successfully merged the majority of the sites my friends are asking what next? My short answer is I don’t know! But I have a lot of story ideas. Some short and some very long. The web is so vast and dynamic it is a never ending story idea.
Most recently I have been working on coffee, disasters and how to get things done (GTD). One of my resolutions this year was to spend more time focused on my writing and crafting a new magazine format for Xanluna! Becasue I have a full time job I have to give it first priority. Dang it would be nice if I could earn a living doing what I love most. Alas someday soon I hope to have my art studio back in business and with the web site now pretty solid it will give me more time to focus on some new platter and jewelry box designs.

More recently I made a few minor adjustments to my office. I added a simple raised shelf across one site of my desk for the multiple monitors to sit on. This also has the side benefit of a place to hide the keyboards doubling my tabletop working space.I built the shelf out of one piece of 8“ wide birch I picked up at The Home Depot along with one piece of 1-1/2” birch strip. I mitered the board at about 60 degrees for the offset. Cut the birch strips at the same length as the width of the top and used simple sheetrock screws drilled from the top. It is unfinished at the moment as this is just temporary. My goal was to get something done quickly and cheaply. The cost for the two C-clamps I use to hold the simple shelf from sliding was more then the board. The shelf is firmly clamped to the top from behind and below the desktop.
The shelf on the wall is mostly for holding the new micro-light that uses 3 LED’s I also got from The Home Depot. Its suppose to last for over 60,000 hours and is part of a kit you can purchase for under the kitchen counter lighting. It comes with an extra connecting wire to lead to multiple lights. In my case I am only using just one as the main cabinet/hutch portion of my desk already has two halogen lights mounted under and below the bottom shelf. As task lighting goes this was a pretty cheap and simple solution. Now on to storage. Having moved from a spacious office in Colorado my office here in California has shrunk based on the size of the home we are renting. Because of the limited closet space I went to Sears and purchased a Craftsman storage cabinet. After looking at what Office Depot, Staples and others wanted for a steal cabinet this was the best value. Besides I already have several Craftsman cabinets in my workshop it did not bother me to have this in my office. The cabinet being metal also gives me a place to post some favorite photos of my grandson. The key benefit is I can lock this cabinet. As we did not want to install an alarm system in a rental home I purchased cable locks for all our computers. This includes the TV, DVR and all stereo equipment. Never can be too safe when protecting your personal property.

Once my workshop is back online I plan to build a outer shell or cover that will conceal the metal and give the unit a more office look or not. As an artist and engineer I kind of like the Red cabinet. Reminds me of my little Red Wagon when I was growing up. Besides who says that this is unconventional. It is simple, functional and serves a good purpose. What more do you need?Well its time to get to other stuff. My GTD process has a lot on my to do list so I better get cracking. Hope you all have a nice week!
