Avatar vs the Future

A couple weeks ago my wife and I finally went to see Avatar. I had been holding out for the DVD version because I already knew from the reviews and many trailers the basic story. And I am not a big fan of any movie that depicts mans goal to obliterate another species or ravage a culture just because they have natural resources that our money hungry nature must exploit.

But everyone said I had to see this movie on the big screen to really see Pandora in its spender.  So my wife and I decided to have a dinner and movie. Of course by now Avatar was relegated to one of the smaller theaters but still bigger then our 42” HDTV. We put on the 3D glasses and sat back for a thrill. As this was my first 3D movie I was skeptical but soon I was buried in the movie.

Yes I will say it was a good flick and worth watching at least one time in a theater with the whole 3D thing, but I don’t plan on making it a habit. Personally I did not like having to wear the glasses because it meant that I could not wear my own prescription pair. Having  a short depth of field on the screen meant I had to wear them or everything was really fuzzy and that did not appeal to me at all! The other thing was I did not see the blue creatures that are portrayed in all the still photo’s.

As strolled through the list I noted repeat, after repeat, after repeat. Finally I just switched to the discovery channel and watched some science show. And to think I pay good money each month to have my TV there with this list of repeats. Granted it is bundled with my phone and internet service, but really. My home movie collection has more choice!

Red Alert! Awards Season Anxiety In Hollywood

Over at Style.com - When it comes to love, Jessica Stam is rumored to have Anne Hathaway syndrome. You know, when the person you fall for is actually a future felon whom you aid and abet while blinded by passion.

Natalie Portman—not exactly Hollywood’s panty-problem poster child—is not a total goody-goody, either. When it comes to celibacy, the actress, who turned down a role as a nun, just doesn’t get it. Good to know.

Albert Einstein

The fairest thing we can experience is the mysterious.

It is the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and science.

He who knows it not and can no longer wonder, no longer feels amazement, is as good as dead, a snuffed-out candle.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift; that's why they call it the present!
