Once upon a time a nation was born. It was created from a bunch of misfits and people who were tired of the King imposing taxes and unjust rules. They boarded rickety ships and sailed across to the promised land. Where they toiled under the distant King. Finally they held a tea party and told the distant King he was no longer welcome in this new land.

Every once in a while I wonder what it would be like to really live in a country where the democratic system is not in the middle of our lives. Oh I have spend enormous amounts of time visiting other countries and lived in some that were so depressed that they make our poor people look rich in comparison. So my view is a little skewed from what you might call normal.

I sat in my chair last night and I watched while Sen. Barack Obama gave his acceptance speech as the Democrats candidate for President of the United States. I could have spent $100 or so amount to attend in person as the convention was held just an hour south of me. But I am not into politics.

There are 3 subjects that I shy away from here on Xanluna! Politics, Religion and Sex. The reason is simple, they provoke controversy and in my opinion don't flow well with the theme of what I am trying to achieve in a clean and informative web portal.

But there are times when I have to put in my little nudge to help wake up the American people that it IS time for a change if we are ever to stabilize and bring the United States back toward its roots.

I watched the Bill Moyers Journal on PBS last night on the Limits of Power that included a face to face interview with Andrew Bacevich. The acclaimed conservative historian and former military officer, a bracing call for a pragmatic confrontation with the nation's problems.
